• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Killing innocents is wrong, yes. But not murderers.

I bet it's killing Alruane not to respond to my posts so I'll try and post here as much as possible, especially in response to her. *Evil grin* You can kill murders instead of imprisoning them on the grounds they KILLED somebody, thanks much.

    Death Penalty

Geez. Also, as to little monster's point, that WOULD be cruel and unusual punishment.

Emphasis obviously mine but still. I was responding to this assumption (Which makes an ass out of you and me) and saying I do believe they should have them. I did not in ANY way say they already have them and are gaining equal protection of the law. I just said they should. And if you didn't...

    Death Penalty

I keep my arguments perfectly straight. The constitution does not say that the federal government can make laws of benevolence, therefore it is a power reserved for the state by amendment ten. It also doesn't say that you can eat, but it is a right retained for the people through amendment nine...

    Death Penalty

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of...

Yes, but also number 10 for real this time. I have no problem with Massachusetts making social programs. Heck, California can become freaking communist and it won't be illegal. But as explained by this amendment, seeing as objects of benevolence are not in the constitution, the fed can't make...

    No I didn't.

Yes, but laws establishing dinner are not necessary. Read amendment ten. EDIT: 9 GAAHHH I ALWAYS CONFUSE THOSE TWO

    Death Penalty

Alruane, it has nothing to do with whether I think they deserve it or not, or whether or not they want it. It has to do with the fact that THERE IS NOWHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION WHICH ALLOWS IT. I've also seen some very good speeches, one from Congressman Davy Crockett and the other from James...

    Death Penalty

Hm. I do know what I'm saying. I don't agree with medicare medicaid social security welfare public housing health care and all the other "Objects of benevolence" (James Madison) the government seems to be handing out today.

    Death Penalty

No. Actually, a very small amount of evidence can have an appeal made and any reasonable doubt can get you out of the slammer. That's why it's so unlikely these 8 actually were innocent.

Well truly they had been proven guilty, or they would never have been on death row.

Oh god so much to respond to. Sorry but I will just cut this into a few points. Dannichu, again. "The problem isn't black people and poor people getting what they deserve, but whites not getting what they deserve." Basically, there's no real problem in black people or poor people having a high...

    Death Penalty

Trampling on it = making laws that ignore the constitution or reshaping it through judicial diktat without going through the correct amendment process outlined in article 8. That was half the point of my argument; that you'll most likely still have twelve to fourteen years for new evidence to...

    Death Penalty

I can't even take a break from this forum anymore D:~. I'm sorry for misinterpreting ultraviolet, it's just when you brought it up when I was talking about popular sovereignty that's what I assumed you meant. I don't really believe that "We pay that price for keeping the streets clean," for...
  17. Pwnemon

    Death Penalty

Well, it's directed at Ultraviolet claiming that we should change the principle of popular sovereignty just because it has always been that way.

    Death Penalty

It doesn't work as a deterrent orly? I would think if I was planning on killing a dude the fact that I may get killed back would deter me pretty well so I would like a source on that one. I think it's inherently good to not kill innocent people but the way to do that is not to let murderers go...

    Death Penalty

Blow one little statement about popular sovereignty out of proportion to call it my whole argument for the death penalty why goddamn don't you.
  20. Pwnemon

    Death Penalty

Way to intentionally misinterpret my post Alruane. There's no real way you would have read that a the death penalty instead of popular sovereignty as being a founding principle. On the other hand, let me show the similarities between licenses and death penalty trials: 1) They're both state...
